Recommended to client from existing customer. Her then developer was delivering what he wanted rather than what the client wanted.
A public and/or members service, which allowed for gift finding according to a multitude of criteria. Also a reminder service for important dates.
Redesigned the whole front end as exisiting design was too member focused and hence her revenues were low. Implemented a more sales driven design with members take up as a secondary.
Client was receiving XML files from affiliation schemes and it was a manual process. Fully automated the receiving of these files on a scheduled basis and the transposing of data to fit into the database design.
Designed a calendar system for members important dates routine. Also connected with the FaceBook API to allow for members to download their friends list straight to the website.

Client originally came to me over 10 years ago, wanting a web presence but considered his business too complex to model.
After some extensive meetings at his premises, I gained a full understanding of the business and produced a design based around his real world procedures.
Due to the complex nature of ordering a picture frame, a step by step approach was adopted to avoid data entry overload. I needed to guide the customer through the procedure simply and avoid customer loss through complex decisions.
Custom built CMS was designed to manage the entire range.
Clients online orders increased quarter on quarter and opened him up to new markets nationwide. I became a preferred solutions provider and client returned to me time on time for additional work.
The website has evolved completely over time and now uses VB.NET linking to a SQL Server database. The ordering process is much richer, with a graphical single page approach being used.

book-your-ad

Existing client returned to me to setup a new website based around advertising in publishers magazines/papers/newsletters,etc.
Publisher side of things was the data driven aspect of the whole site, the publisher defining exactly what he wanted to offer to the prospective advertiser. A myriad of data had to be captured so intelligent use of a clear menu structure was required.
Advertiser side was simpler but the crux of this leg was to simplify the booking of an advert, hither to a problematic area that even the big players in this area were finding hard to solve.
Client wanted to be able to link to PayPal and implement chained payments from his account to publishers accounts so settlement was immediate.
He also wanted automatic invoicing across the board in pdf form.

engageCrew

engageCrew was a replacement for a website I had written for them called InsidePeople. Links to a SQL Server 2005 database.
The company is a marketing and promotions business and as part of this, they require promotional staff on a regular basis. Rather than pay agency fees, they opted to have their own staff registry built.
Simple registration process to enable account setup. Staff member can then log on and add further details to enhance their profile, including uploading photos.
Administration side includes campaign set ups and more importantly, a detailed search facility. These search results allow admin to add people to campaigns, where they are managed prior to the promotion.
Includes the management of campaign documents for staff to read, along with facilities to easily email or text (linking to textanywhere services) them with necessary details.
The admin also includes the ability to manage staff accounts and ratings, as well as general uploading of staff related documentation (e.g. P46's). Subsequently re-designed.

engagei

A major project which lasted 2 years upon which I was sole developer and project manager. Utilised a SQL Server 2005 database.
The company is a marketing and promotions business and as an expansion of their business, their director say an opportunity in the magazine advertising sector.
A complex business model, the website consisted of 3 distinct areas; publisher, advertiser and admin.
The publisher side basically involved form based data capture. Due to the massive amount of information involved, a tabs based approach was taken to simplify presentation. The data not only related to the magazine, but to auctions, offers and articles. So I opted to include a desktop summary on entry to aid account management. Image uploading was also incorporated, including the use of Silverlight to build a virtual magazine.
The advertiser side had some limited data capture, but was mainly centred around extensive search capabilities, including comparison options. The client was quite demanding on requirements here, so some clever use of tab presentation and bespoke scrolling was incorporated. A desktop approach was also used to help account management.
The admin side included things associated with account management.

B2B Software

www.b2bsoftware.org.uk

B2BSoftware is a document collaboration website. Links to a MySql database.
A colleague approched me with a request to redesign from the floor up, a website he had built many years ago.
More and more of his clients were complaining of documents never getting through to their intended recipients when emailed due to over zealous SPAM filters.
Whilst his existing website was functional, it was out dated and clumsy to use. So rather than build on this framework, I decided to take the basic concepts used in the initial build and redesign the website entirely.
The core of the functionality is centred around a "super user", an account holder who controls events associated with his account. This control included users, projects and documents.
The design was logical in its nature to promote ease of use. The account holder could set up many projects. He could also set up many users and assign these users to projects. Within each project, many documents could be uploaded and specific access given to these documents. Clear areas defined each section for clarity.
