The last project worked on, engageCrew was a replacement for a website I had written for them called InsidePeople. Links to a SQL Server 2005 database.

The company is a marketing and promotions business and as part of this, they require promotional staff on a regular basis. Rather than pay agency fees, they opted to have their own staff registry built.

There is a simple registration process to enable account setup. Once done, the staff member can then log on and add further details to enhance their profile, including uploading photos.

The administration side includes campaign set ups and more importantly, a detailed search facility. These search results allow admin to add people to campaigns, where they are managed prior to the promotion.

This includes the management of campaign documents for staff to read, along with facilities to easily email or text (linking to textanywhere services) them with necessary details.

The admin also includes the ability to manage staff accounts and ratings, as well as general uploading of staff related documentation (e.g. P46's)

  • Quick registration
  • Account management
  • Photo uploading
  • Forms uploading
  • Full administration suite

A major project which lasted 2 years upon which I was sole developer and project manager. Utilised a SQL Server 2005 database.

The company is a marketing and promotions business and as an expansion of their business, their director say an opportunity in the magazine advertising sector.

A complex business model, the website consisted of 3 distinct areas; publisher, advertiser and admin.

The publisher side basically involved form based data capture. Due to the massive amount of information involved, a tabs based approach was taken to simplify presentation. The data not only related to the magazine, but to auctions, offers and articles. So I opted to include a desktop summary on entry to aid account management. Image uploading was also incorporated, including the use of Silverlight to build a virtual magazine.

The advertiser side had some limited data capture, but was mainly centred around extensive search capabilities, including comparison options. The client was quite demanding on requirements here, so some clever use of tab presentation and bespoke scrolling was incorporated. A desktop approach was also used to help account management.

The admin side included things associated with account management.

  • Quick registration
  • Account management
  • Virtual magazine
  • Desktop presentation
  • Clear presentation of complex data
  • Full administration suite

A client approached me after trying to set up a website for herself. The domain she had bought came with a website creator but the limitations were substantial so she opted to employ a professional.

After gaining an understanding of her business, we realised we could offer more than just a web presence and suggested that we incorporate downloads into her website to market her on a worldwide basis.

The website had to deal with a lot of information presentation so a sympathetic approach was taken to avoid overload. Clear areas were identified and within these, the use of show/hide mouseover effects were employed to disseminate information in easy to read chunks.

The downloads involved the use of basic account setups, to include generation of a download link and notification of, through an automated email. The object was to keep the administration of the website to a minimum whilst generating maximum income.

An access database was used to enable the client to download it in its entirety for her own usage. Reduced the technical knowledge required to access the database plus reduced time/costs as no bespoke SQL queries were required.

Payments were linked through to the PayPal platform.

  • Links to UTube account

Whilst working for the MOD, client wanted a quick web presence.

Some basic requirements were taken and a website detailing the main points of what they wanted to get across was designed.

Simple design with clear cut areas to show information in an uncluttered way.

After doing a website for a picture frames company, I was recommended to an artist as a solution to his website. He had gone the cheap route abroad and basically, had got what he paid for, a poorly designed website.

Sitting down with him, I got him to think about what he really wanted to get from a website. It transpired it was not just a simple promotion facility, but was a statement of the artist to be projected online.

Using a Flash intro to make a more creative entry, an access database was used to contain details of the artwork he offered. This artwork was fully managed online, both with the uploading of images and, at my suggestion, details of why the painting was made.

The artwork on offer was devided up into clear areas, with uncluttered presentation of the artwork images. Use of an image rollover protection system was designed to stop unwanted image capture.

A reservation system was used to purchase the artwork, to allow for the artist to contact prospective buyers himself for that personal touch during payment.

  • Clear presentation of artwork
  • Image protection system
  • Admin suite for managing artwork
  • Artistic design to reflect website

An old design and now outdated, the client needed a web presence to attract new business and look more professional to existing clients.

Whilst I cannot claim the latest design on this, client originally came to me wanting a web presence but considered his business too complex to model.

After some extensive meetings at his premises, I gained a full understanding of the business and produced a design based around his real world procedures.

Due to the complex nature of ordering a picture frame, a step by step approach was adopted to avoid data entry overload. I needed to guide the customer through the procedure simply and avoid customer loss through complex decisions.

The client was very pleased with the results and with sign off, an admin system was designed to manage the entire range. An access database was used as the client wished to download the database on a regular basis for his own marketing usage.

Customers were captured during the ordering process converting them into account holders simply and unobtrusively. A callback procedure was adopted to allow for the client to give a personal service at payment and to facilitate any cross selling.

Clients online orders increased quarter on quarter and opened him up to new markets nationwide. I became a preferred solutions provider and client returned to me time on time for additional work, until such time as a long term contract stopped me providing this service.

  • Simple ordering process developed
  • Conversion of orders into customers
  • Use of access database
  • Full admin suite to manage product range
  • Customer downloads of invoices
